Ajinkya Rahane, a well-known cricket player from India, will be the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2025 season. The IPL is a big cricket tournament in India where different teams compete. KKR is the team that won the last IPL, and they want to win again.
On Monday, March 3, 2025, the team announced that Venkatesh Iyer will help Rahane as the vice-captain. This means Venkatesh will support Rahane and take charge if needed.
Rahane is excited about his new role. He said, “It’s an honour to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises. We have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and taking up the challenge of defending the title.” In simple words, Rahane feels proud to lead KKR, thinks the team is strong, and wants to help them win the IPL again.
The boss of KKR, Venky Mysore, is happy about this choice too. He said, “We are delighted to have Rahane, who brings his experience and maturity as a leader. Venkatesh has been a franchise player for KKR and brings a lot of leadership qualities. We are confident that they will combine well as we start our title defence.” This means Venky believes Rahane knows how to lead well because he’s done it before, and Venkatesh is also good at leading. They think the two will work together nicely to keep KKR winning.
KKR has won the IPL three times before. They will start the 2025 season by playing against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team on March 22. This first game will happen at Eden Gardens, a famous cricket stadium in Kolkata, where KKR is based.
