In 2024, the Indian capital market not only surpassed the US and Europe in global IPO volumes but also recorded several historic milestones. Factors-wise, in 2024, India overtook the US and Europe to lead the global IPO volumes. While the number of IPOs conducted in India was twice that of the US and 2.5 times that of Europe, it is also worth noting that India is on its way to becoming the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, with a target to reach $7 trillion GDP by 2030.

₹1,29,200 crore was raised through 91 QIP deals in India in 2024, surpassing last year’s ₹52,300 crore and 2020’s peak of ₹80,500 crore. The figure reflects the strength of the Indian capital market and growing investor confidence.

Comparison of global and Indian IPOs

The global IPO market raised $121.2 billion through 1,215 deals, slightly below 2023 levels. In contrast, 76 companies in India raised ₹1.3 lakh crore in the first 11 months. Supportive regulatory reforms and investor confidence played a big role in this.

Future Prospects
According to Pantomath Group’s recent report “2024 Achievements: 2025 Expectations”, 34 companies have received SEBI approval to raise ₹41,462 crore, while 55 firms are awaiting approval for ₹98,672 crore. 143 DRHPs were filed in 2024, which is significantly higher than 84 in 2023 and 89 in 2022.

Participation of global companies
Experts believe that multinational companies get advantages like low capital cost, large consumer market, and strong regulatory system by listing in the Indian market. Their increasing participation is giving a new dimension to the Indian capital market.

2025 Prospects
Pantomath’s previous report had already estimated that more than ₹1 lakh crore would be raised through IPOs in 2025. But this target was surpassed in 2024 itself. Given the current market momentum, it is likely that ₹2 lakh crore can be raised through IPOs in 2025.

Key Sectors and Returns

Real estate, utilities, automobiles, metals and PSU banking sectors contributed 57% of the total QIPs in 2024. Six of these issues have given more than 100% returns, and more than two-thirds of the stocks have recorded positive returns.

Investor Outlook

These figures clearly show that the strength of the Indian capital market, investor confidence, and the role of IPOs have accelerated economic growth. It would not be wrong to say that the Indian economy and market are making a new identity at the global level.

It is also worth noting that the growing startup ecosystem and Digital India campaign have given rise to new possibilities in the Indian market. Along with this, the active participation of retail investors has also played an important role in taking the market to new heights.
