A young golfer named Shaurya Bhattacharya won a big golf competition called the Chhattisgarh Open. He finished the tournament with an amazing score, beating everyone else by five shots. The event happened at a beautiful golf course in Naya Raipur on Friday, February 28, 2025. Shaurya’s total score was 27 under par, which means he did really well over four days of playing.
Shaurya, who is 22 years old and from Chandigarh, scored 64, 61, 61, and 63 in the four rounds. These numbers show how many shots he took each day to finish the course. The lower the number, the better he played. This was his second time winning a professional golf tournament. His first win was last year when he was new to the professional level.
“It was a solid week for me with just one bogey through the four rounds. It was all about focusing on my breathing and staying in the present,” said Shaurya. A bogey is when a golfer takes one more shot than expected on a hole, so having only one mistake in four days is impressive. He won 15 lakh rupees (Rs. 15,00,000), which is a lot of money, handed to him by Kapil Dev, a famous person in golf, and Arun Sao, an important leader in Chhattisgarh.
Shaurya explained his plan: “The plan was to attack the flags since it is a scoring course. I gave myself a target of three to four under for the day as I knew that would be good enough to win. I am glad that I managed to do even better.” This means he tried to aim straight for the holes because the course was easier to score on, and he beat his own goal for the last day.
Because of this win, Shaurya jumped from 59th place to 2nd place in a ranking called the PGTI Order of Merit, which tracks how much money golfers earn. He now has Rs. 15,85,325, just behind the leader, Yuvraj Sandhu, who has Rs. 30,00,000.
Another golfer, Sachin Baisoya, had the best score of the final day with an eight-under 61. He came in second place with a total of 22 under par and won Rs. 10,00,000. A golfer from Sri Lanka named N. Thangaraja took third place with 21 under par and earned Rs. 4,99,800. Khalin Joshi, who was leading after two days, ended up tied for fifth with two others and won Rs. 3,49,967. Shaurya Binu, who led after the first day, finished tied for eighth with Udayan Mane and won Rs. 2,36,250.
