According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the demand for AI laptops will grow rapidly in 2024. Chip makers like AMD, Qualcomm and Intel are promoting ‘Copilot+’ laptops. NVIDIA is also promoting generative AI technology with high-performance laptops.
Microsoft has defined the minimum technical requirements for ‘Copilot+’ laptops:
- 16GB RAM
- 256GB storage
- 40TOPS capacity of neural processor (NPU) (1TOPS means that the processor can perform 1 trillion operations per second).
Latest PC market situation
According to data from Counterpoint Research, the global PC market grew by 3.7% in the fourth quarter of 2024. This growth was mainly due to the year-end shopping season and China’s subsidy policies. In addition, many companies are upgrading their IT systems due to the end of Windows 10 support, keeping PC orders stable.
Acer’s opinion and price expectations
Acer Chairman Chen Junsheng said in a recent interview that prices of AI laptops were expected to be $899 (about ₹74,000) or less by the third quarter of 2024. But due to technological advancements and increasing competition in the market, these prices may fall sooner.
