The Khelo India Winter Games 2025 is a big sports event happening in Gulmarg, a snowy area in Jammu and Kashmir. It will take place from March 9 to March 12, 2025. This event was supposed to happen earlier, from February 22 to 25, but there wasn’t enough snow then. Kashmir had a very dry winter this year, with almost no snow until recently. Now, after heavy snowfall in the higher parts of the Valley, the games can go ahead as planned.
This event is all about winter sports. Athletes from all over India will come to compete. They’ll take part in skiing (sliding down snowy hills on special boards) and snowboarding (riding a single board down snowy slopes). These are exciting sports that need snow to play.
Nuzhat Gul, the secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, said, “We are all set to host the Khelo India Winter Games 2025 from March 9 to 12. Top winter sports athletes from across the country are expected to participate in the event.” She’s in charge of making sure everything is ready, and she’s excited to welcome the best players.
This is the second part of the Winter Games this year. The first part already happened in January in Leh, a place in Ladakh. There, athletes competed in ice-skating (gliding on ice with special shoes) and ice-hockey (a team game played on ice with sticks and a puck). Now, the second part will focus on snow sports in Gulmarg.
The Khelo India Winter Games is a chance for young athletes to show their skills and have fun in the snow. It’s also a way to bring people together to enjoy winter sports in India’s beautiful mountain areas.
