Marc Marquez, a famous motorcycle racer with six world championships, won the first MotoGP race of the 2025 season in Thailand on March 02, 2025. He rides for the Ducati team, a big motorcycle company, and this was his first race with them. Marc beat his younger brother, Alex Marquez, who came in second, and another teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, who finished third. All three racers were on Ducati bikes, making it a great day for the team.
The race happened at the Buriram International Circuit, a racetrack in Thailand. It was hot and humid, meaning it felt sticky and sweaty. Marc started the race in first place because he was the fastest in practice, which is called getting “pole position.” He also won a shorter race the day before, called a sprint. At the start of the big race, Marc took off fast, but Alex passed him on the seventh lap out of 26 total laps. Near the end, with only three laps left, Marc sped up and took the lead back to win.
This was a big deal because Marc hadn’t won the first race of a season since 2014. He was super excited and said to reporters, “Yesterday, I was happy. Today, I’m super happy. I mean, this is a dream! It’s a dream start my new journey with Ducati like this in Thailand where I won my last four championships, to be here with my brother – incredible.” He meant it felt amazing to win with his new team and share the moment with Alex.
Marc finished the race 1.732 seconds ahead of Alex, which is a short time in racing but enough to win. At 32 years old, Marc is now leading the MotoGP world championship with 37 points. Alex has 29 points, and Francesco, also called “Pecco,” has 23 points. Points are like scores that add up over the season to decide the champion. Marc has now been on the podium—finishing in the top three—112 times in his career, tying with another Spanish racer, Dani Pedrosa.
Alex said he tried hard to keep up with Marc. He explained, “I thought he (Marc) was trying not to use a lot of rear tyre. I was using everything, I was using all the energy because when you don’t have it, literally, you need to push a bit more, and you cannot really save tyre.” In racing, the “rear tyre” is the back wheel’s rubber, which wears out if you push too hard. Alex said second place was the best he could do, and he was proud to stay ahead of Francesco, a two-time world champion.
Francesco, who came in third, said, “I gave my all and I could not be too close to Alex to try and attend. Marc was playing with us all the way. So, my maximum ambition was to finish in P2 but we finished in P3.” “P2” means second place, and “P3” means third place. He tried his best but couldn’t catch up because Marc was too fast.
Other racers did well too. Franco Morbidelli moved up from sixth to fourth place, and Ai Ogura, a new racer from Japan, finished fifth, which is impressive for his first season in MotoGP.
In short, Marc Marquez started his time with Ducati by winning in Thailand, beating his brother and teammate, and taking the lead in the championship. It was a thrilling race for fans and a great day for the Ducati team!
